Last Saturday, STRUT co-founder Omar Lisandro and I walked down the streets of Galveston. To our left and right the stereotypical beach shops displayed their bikinis, board shorts, and humorous t-shirts for common tourists to see and hopefully purchase. As Houston fashion representors, we were not there for the shot glasses or the keychains, but rather an event that we heard about through a musicians Instagram account. Dandy Wellington and his band were going to be playing the Galveston Beach Revue, an occasion created to throwback to old summer events that promoted vintage beach style, and after some research we realized we had to check it out.
The Hotel Galvez was in our sights along with the classic cars, old fashioned bikinis, and 40s inspired hairdos, as we made our way from the shops. Once there, it became a flashback to the older days of style and we were excited to see what the attendees were wearing. Although many outfits disappointed because they didn’t encompass the classic fashion of the decades, the bathing suit contest, represented by the Bathing Beauties, was a complete hit. Velvet blue one-pieces, retro high-waisted bikinis, and adventurous space-like suits took the stage for a vibrant and fun affair. Needless to say, the outfits were fantastic! Check out what we got to see at the GBR.
