The Spring 2019 Fashion Show was organized by LAUNCH HTX featuring its 40+ designers and vendors, in addition with headlining designer Chloe Dao. The venue was one of our landmark parks, Discovery Green.
When I first learned about the venue, I was very happy to hear it would take place in Discovery Green. Firstly, because it is one of my favorite Houston parks, but also because I know they have a flawless production team. However, I assumed it would take place on its main performance stage, the Anheuser-Busch Stage. But when I heard it would actually take place on one of its main paths, The Brown Foundation Promenade, I was very excited. Perhaps it is personal bias, but I’ve been waiting for a fashion show on one of our main public parks for quite a while now.
As mentioned before, Discovery Green has an amazing production team. I’ve been attending their public concerts for about 5 years now, and this production was their usual high standard. Even despite it being Discovery Green’s first fashion show, with a runway in length of 250 ft, and with 50+ looks, the flow of the show was very smooth.
And lastly the fashion, the designs were great, in particular I really liked the more vibrant and punchy colors used. Chloe Dao’s long dresses were my favorite and a little off-topic, but I really enjoyed the transitions and movements between the colors in her set. The opening set of looks from LAUNCH HTX also featured bold and vibrant colors. I’m not sure if this was an underlying theme, but as a “motif”, I really like the boldness of the color palette.
Here are some highlights from the show:
I’ve been covering Houston fashion shows for the last 4 years and with it just being January, 2019 is already off to great start. It really feels like the Houston fashion scene is becoming more serious every season. With fashion show production of this level, in addition to public spaces like Discovery Green, I believe Houstonians will begin to discover the very talented and creative fashion scene we have.
